The First 72 Hours (The Crucial Window)
Immediately following your surgery, you will experience some swelling, redness, and mild discomfort. You must sleep with your head elevated using a travel pillow to prevent swelling from moving down to your face. During this time, the newly implanted grafts are extremely fragile and must not be touched or bumped.
Days 3 to 10 (Scabbing and Washing)
Your clinic will provide a special lotion and shampoo. Around day 3, you will begin the washing routine to gently soften and remove the scabs. By day 10, all scabs should naturally fall off, leaving the recipient area looking like a fresh buzz cut.
Weeks 2 to 4 (The "Shock Loss" Phase)
Don't panic! Between weeks 2 and 4, the newly transplanted hairs will begin to shed. This is a completely normal part of the process known as "shock loss." The follicle root remains safe beneath the skin and is preparing to grow new hair.
Months 3 to 6 (New Growth Begins)
Fine, baby-like hairs will start to emerge. They may initially look thin or lack color, but they will gradually thicken over the coming months.
Months 12 to 18 (Final Results)
By the 12-month mark, you will see about 90% of your final result. The hair will have thickened and matured. For the crown area, it can take up to 18 months to see the complete outcome.
