FUE vs DHI: Which technique is right for you?

Understanding the Basics

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) are the two most popular and advanced hair transplant techniques available in Turkiye today. Both methods involve extracting individual hair follicles from a donor area (usually the back of the head) and implanting them into the thinning or bald areas.

The FUE Technique

In FUE, the surgeon first extracts the grafts and opens micro-channels in the recipient area. The extracted grafts are then manually placed into these channels. FUE is excellent for covering large areas of baldness because it allows for the extraction and implantation of a massive number of grafts (up to 4,000-5,000 in a single session).

The DHI Technique

DHI is a modified version of FUE. Instead of opening channels beforehand, the surgeon uses a specialized tool called a Choi Implanter Pen. This pen simultaneously creates the channel and implants the follicle. DHI offers exceptional precision over the angle, depth, and direction of the hair, making it perfect for increasing density without shaving the recipient area. However, it is a more time-consuming process, usually limited to around 2,500-3,000 grafts per session.

Which is right for you?

  • Choose FUE if: You have severe hair loss and need a high number of grafts to cover a large area.
  • Choose DHI if: You are looking to increase density in specific areas (like the hairline), prefer not to shave your entire head, and require fewer grafts.
